Hardwar, Pantnagar escape power disruption

BS Reporter New Delhi/ Dehra Dun
Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) has launched efforts to repair power lines, whose damage due to bad weather conditions affected electricity supply.

However, UPCL, the state-run power distribution utility, has also issued a warning that the breakdown situation may continue for a few more days.

Power supply was affected after several power lines connected with the northern grid got tripped due to windy weather and torrential rain lashing the region over the past 72 hours.

The lines that got tripped include the 400 KV Muzaffarnagar-Rishikesh line, 400 KV Rishikesh-Kashipur line and 400 KV Lucknow-Moradabad-Kashipur line. Altogether, 59 lines had been tripped in the past three days, said officials of the UPCL.

However, work at the industrial estates of Haridwar and Pantnagar remained unaffected.

"We did not have any major problem due to the electricity breakdown," said Sushil Sharma, regional manager of the Haridwar Integrated Industrial Estate.
