Haryana CM orders 100,000 houses for the poor

| Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has directed the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to construct 100,000 low-cost houses to facilitate the poor sections of society in the National Capital Region falling in the state. |
| Hooda, who was presiding over the 98th meeting of the authority of the HUDA here late last evening, said each such house having two rooms should be constructed at a cost of up to Rs 1 lakh. |
| "It has become necessary to construct low cost houses for the poor in view of the escalating cost of land in the NCR. Shelter for the poor should not be beyond their reach," he added. |
| In case of allotment of residential plots of HUDA to members belonging to general category, it was also decided that an individual could give only one application against any flotation of plots in any urban estate of HUDA. |
| The authority also decided to raise the financial limit of Superintendent Engineering HUDA to execute work from Rs.10 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh so as to avoid the unnecessary delay in the execution of work. Earlier, these powers of Superintending Engineer were for works upto Rs. five lakh without any condition and upto Rs. 10 lakh within ceiling premium. |
| The chief minister, who is also chairman of HUDA, directed that the disposal of files of HUDA should be made quickly and in a time bound manner to avoid the inconvenience being caused to the people. |
| He also directed that the earmarked amount of Rs.770 crore to be incurred during next three years for the development of the Gurgaon city should be spent within the scheduled period. |
