HC reserves verdict on EC applications

The Karnataka High Court today reserved its verdict on the applications by the State Election Commission (SEC) and the state government on the reservation list for the urban local bodies elections.
The SEC in its application filed before the court today sought a direction from it to the state government to issue the final reservation list for the urban local bodies within two days and it had failed to do so by December 17 as directed by the court last month.
The State Election Commission also filed a separate contempt petition against the Chief Secretary and the Secretary Urban Development for their failure to obey the direction of the court.
The state government also filed an application seeking extension of time by two weeks for issuing the final reservation list and extension of time by six weeks to issue reservation list for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson for various corporations and municipalities. A Division Bench, comprising Justice Anand Byrareddy and Justice B Manohar, reserved its judgement on the applications while ordering issue of notice to the Chief Secretary and Secretary, Urban Development, on the separate contempt plea.
