Light engineering cluster in Faridabad

An eco-friendly "light engineering cluster" is expected to come up in Faridabad with 75 per cent central assistance, to improve the global competitiveness of domestic industries, as well as to give the Haryana township a fillip in terms of foreign direct investment(FDI) inflow.
The project, under the industrial infrastructure upgrade scheme, is estimated to cost Rs 79.56 crore and will create a "condusive ground for the development with infrastructure support and service network," thereby helping domestic industries compete at the international level, an industry department spokesman said today.
The scheme was aimed at increasing production and exports in a "pollution-free environment", to boost FDI inflow and envisaged 75 per cent assistance from the Centre, 15 per cent from industries and the remaining 10 per cent from state government agencies if need be, he said.
It would also assist in the "technology transfer and information sharing" through public and private partnership, which would include the upliftment of roads, drinking water supply, effluent treatment, sewerage and power distribution system.
The project, referred to as the "Faridabad light engineering cluster development society," would also focus on the upgrade of information technology-enabled services for the training of skilled manpower as per industry needs, the spokesman added.
