M'rashtra to prevent non-usage of MIDC plots

Press Trust Of India Mumbai
In an attempt to prevent non-usage of MIDC plots meant for industrial purposes, the Maharashtra government has decided to fine those who did not begin work within a specified time frame in their plots.

"I will not deny that all the plots given by MIDC are not being utilised to their full extent. There are some on which construction has not been started. We have however now decided to fine such plot owners if they don't utilise their plot in a specified time frame," Maharashtra Minister of State for Industries Rana Jagjit Singh informed the Upper House of the Maharashtra legislature today.

"This fine will be imposed if there is no work on the plot and will go on increasing with each year. We are taking measures in this matter," Singh said.

The Minister was responding to a statement by several members, including Diwakar Raote (Shiv Sena), that the government had begun land acquisiton of farmer's lands in Nasik district when many of the MIDC plots were lying vacant.

"Why are you acquiring farmers land and sparing industrialists' This is not right. First take action against those who have not begun any work on their plots for years now," Raote said.
