Meet to mull developing small towns

Eco Watch Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development, based out of Bangalore, will hold a two-day seminar on Technology, Development and Environment at the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) campus in Belgaum. The meet will focus on the importance of developing small towns on Oct 29-30.

Environmentalist and actor-director Suresh Heblikar of Eco Watch told Business Standard that the purpose of the seminar is to draw attention of the authorities concerned such as the district administration, municipal bodies, legislative representatives, industrial and trade sector, and social and educational institutions which influence the development strategies over the matter.

Heblikar said small towns were always trying to ape big cities and over time they too become unmanageable.

"To avoid such a situation, efforts are needed to take up planning of the towns in the right earnest," he added.
