The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the administration of East Midnapore district to file a report tomorrow on whether it received any intimation from ABG Haldia Bulk Terminal or Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) over a law and order situation and action taken by it.

Justice Dipankar Dutta directed the district magistrate, SP and officer in-charge of the local police station to file a report by noon tomorrow on the situation at berths two and eight of Haldia Dock Complex of KoPT, where ABG handles dry bulk cargo.

ABG moved the high court seeking direction to the state to ensure proper law and order at the two berths at the Haldia dock complex.

Around 275 workers, who worked for ABG, and been laid off were allegedly agitating demanding reinstatement. ABG Haldia had given notice to KoPT that it would not handle cargo at its Haldia Dock’s berth two and eight for allegedly not being provided 7.5 lakh tonne dry bulk cargo monthly as per agreement.

The issue was resolved after KoPT moved the high court and a solution was reached and ABG Haldia decided on continuation of work there.
