Milk to cost more in Karnataka

The price of milk will be hiked by Re 1 from December 15 throughout the state with the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) revising the rates after a gap of two years. A litre of milk will be priced at Rs 14 following the hike.
KMF chairman H D Revanna, who is also the energy and public works minister, told reporters here on Monday that the benefit of the hike would be passed on to the milk producers. The last revision of milk price was carried out in November 2004.
"Milk producers have been demanding upward revision of the prices due to increase in production cost," the minister pointed out.
Karnataka is the second largest milk producing state in the country (32 lakh litres of milk daily). While 20 lakh litres is sold daily in Karnataka and neighbouring states, the remaining is converted into milk powder and other products.
