Moopanar Silent On Karunakaran Statement

Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) leader, G K Moopanar, yesterday declined to comment on the suggestion of senior Congress leader, K Karunakaran, that the TMC leader should consider merging that party with the Congress instead of asking the Congress to join the United Front government at the Centre.
When contacted over telephone at Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district, Moopanar said he did not wish to react over what Karunakaran had stated on Monday in New Delhi. It is his opinion. I do not wish to react at all now, he said.
He said even the question of Congress joining the front was a decision that had to be taken up by the steering committee of the front.

What he (Moopanar) has said about Congress joining the government was his personal view. Moopanar said if there was to be real stability at the Centre, the Congress should join the government, but then it depended on the steering committee, he said.
This is not for the first time that a Congress leader has expressed the view that the TMC join that party.
Congress president Sitaram Kesari had expressed such an opinion a few days ago, and even in Tamil Nadu, the Tamil nadu Congress Comittee president, Kumari Ananthan had made such an appeal on the ground that the reasons for which Congressmen in Tamil Nadu left the Congress and formed the Tamil Maanila Congress, no longer existed.
