NDA will revive river linking project: Advani

BS Reporter Raipur

Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP)’s prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani today said that the river-linking project would be taken up on priority basis if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returned to power at the Centre.

“The interlinking of rivers was a dream project of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that could not be fulfilled in the earlier NDA tenure,” Advani said, addressing election meetings in Bilaspur and Kawardha districts today.

If the NDA government came to power, the project would be taken up on priority and would be completed, he said, adding that the interlinking of rivers would be a milestone in the development of the country. “This would solve the problem of drought in many parts of the country,” he added.

Appreciating the performance of the Raman Singh government in Chhattisgarh, Advani said the model of the NDA government, if voted to power at the Centre, would resemble the Chhattisgarh government, which had taken up a slew of measures to uplift the poor.

The subsidised rice scheme of the Chhattisgarh government (that provides a kilogram of rice to 3.4 million people living below poverty line for Rs 2 a kilogram) had become popular across the country, Advani said, adding the NDA government would also give priority to the promotion of information technology as e-governance had helped in delivering good governance.
