The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy will be promoting the use of renewable energy in pilgrimages and shrines like Tirupati, Pushkar and Amritsar. The government has already started an initiative towards this from Shirdi, said Union minister Farooq Abdullah.
Addressing GE Day, an annual showcase of products and services by General Electric here on Wednesday, the minister said the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission would be launched on November 14, 2009.
“The mission will give a boost to the solar power sector in the country and we are hopeful to generate 20,000 Mw of solar power in the first phase by 2020,” he added.
Abdullah said his ministry was planning to sanction Rs 1 crore each to Rajbhavans for implementing renewable energy measures and would also extend financial support to chief ministers' houses, ministerial houses and court complexes for the same.
