Seminar on radiation processing of foods from today

The Federation of Farmers' Associations (FFA), Andhra Pradesh, in association with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), will be organising a national symposium on 'Radiation processing of foods, food products and feeds' in Hyderabad on September 8-9.
 
The two-day symposium, besides deliberating on the radiation technology for processed food, food products and feeds of plant and animal origin, will focus on bio-safety and commercial feasibility, and the need for establishment of food irradiation units across the country.
 
Anil Kakodkar, chairman of Atomic Energy Commission, and secretary (department of atomic energy) to the Government of India, will deliver the inaugural address.
 
Addressing mediapersons in connection with the symposium here on Thursday, PV Subbaiah Choudary, adviser to FFA, said around 200 representatives from the food processing industry, scientists from various universities and research institutions were expected to participate.
 
A book titled 'All About Food Irradiation' will be released by state agriculture minister K Raghuveera Reddy on the occasion.
