State govt allots land to Inbisco

Boosting further investment in the Sanand belt, the Gujarat government has now allotted land to Inbisco India Pvt. Ltd., the Indian arm of Indonesian food and confectionary player Mayora Group.
The company is planning to invest Rs 1,000 crore for setting up a food and confectionary manufacturing plant in Sanand GIDC. "We have been allotted the land recently by the state government. We have now begun work on detailed project report following which we should start construction by October 2012," said Irawan Sutiono, project manager at Inbisco India. The company plans to commission the plant within a year from October 2012.
This will be Inbisco's second manufacturing plant after Hyderabad. According to Sutiono, the company will be manufacturing products like biscuits, candy, wafers, noodles, chocolate paste, instant coffee and cereals at the plant.
"We are yet to ascertain the overall capacity of the plant. However, the production of all these products will begin in a phased manner, starting from biscuits," Sutiono added. Of these, it will produce Choki Choki brand of chocolates and Kopiko brand of coffee candy from the Sanand GIDC plant.
Earlier, Inbisco had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gujarat government's Industrial Extension Bureau (IndextB) for the plant. While much of the capacity will be utilised for the domestic, Sutiono said that the company may also tap overseas markets from the Sanand plant.
The Indonesian group set up Inbisco in 2008 in India as a distribution company for its global food and confectionary products. However, last year, the company forayed into manufacturing by setting up a plant in Hyderabad.
