UP sees consistent industrial growth since 2007 under Mayawati regime

Uttar Pradesh has witnessed consistent industrial activities under the current Mayawati government, considering the setting up of new industrial units since 2007.
The current regime came to power in May 2007 and thenceforth 1,52,058 new industrial units have been established in UP.
However, the growth rate in the setting up of new units took a slight beating in 2010-11.
During 2007-08, 32,837 units were set up, while the corresponding figures for 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 are 33,771, 37,435 and 35,861 respectively.
In the current financial year, a total of 12,154 industrial units have been set up in UP till July.

Chief minister Mayawati, in a written reply to the state Assembly today, reiterated that statistics show industrial units on the increase.
During 2011-12, the government has set up a target of 33,000 new industrial units, providing employment to 1,30,000 people.
In the first quarter of the current financial year, investment to the tune of Rs 756 crore had flowed in to the industrial sector of the targeted investment of Rs 2,500 crore. About 50,000 people had been provided employment opportunities through new ventures.
UP has a large micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) base contributing to its industrial growth and economy. The state accounts for 12 per cent of the total MSME base in India.
UP is home to about 3.1 million MSMEs in the manufacturing and services sectors. An overwhelming percentage of units are owned by oppressed sections of society.
MSMEs contribute 60 per cent to UP’s industrial output and provides employment to 5 million people. Besides, the sector accounts for 8 per cent of state gross domestic product of around Rs 6,00,000 crore.
As per the last All-India Census of the sector conducted by union MSME ministry, over 62 per cent of MSMEs in UP were being run by entrepreneurs belonging to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and other backward classes categories.
Earlier, state small industries minister Chandradev Ram Yadav had directed officials to ensure functioning of district industries centre (DIC) and opening communication channels with entrepreneurs by popularising schemes to boost production and exports.
Major MSME pockets in UP, include Varanasi, Allahabad, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Ferozabad, Meerut, Bhadohi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Khurja, Aligarh and Mathura.
