Aam Party Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal announced here today that he was ready to contest against Narendra Modi from Varanasi and will take a final decision a week later.

"My party has suggested that I should take on Modi in the (Lok Sabha) election," Kejriwal told an election rally here, amidst a roar of approval from the crowd.

Underlining that it was "important to defeat Modi", the former Delhi chief minister said: "It is a very big challenge. It is not a small challenge... I am ready to accept this challenge."

But Kejriwal quickly added that he will visit Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on March 23 and decide whether or not he must take on Modi after judging the response of the people there.

Addressing the rally at Freedom Park, here today, Kejriwal also thrashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for giving tickets to the corrupt politicians in Karnataka and other states.

He questioned BJP on why the party is fielding corrupt politicians like Sreeramalu and Yeddyurappa when it claims to be against corruption.

Kejriwal claimed he has visited many places all over India and have found no one happy with the their government.

“After resigning from Chief Minister’s post, I visited Haryana, UP, Karnataka and Odisha and got to know that people are not happy with their government and need change,” he said.

“People of Karnataka are unhappy with both BJP and Congress and want to eradicate them,” Kejriwal added.
