Chhattisgarh takes up 14 irrigation projects

Chhattisgarh government has approved 14 new irrigation projects in the state to be completed with an estimated cost of Rs 654 crore.
Of the projects approved by the state government, one is a major irrigation project besides 10 annicuts and three flood control projects.
The major irrigation project would come up on Kelo river near Raigarh. The state government had sanctioned Rs 598.91 crore for the project that would help irrigating 22,810 hectares of land in the district.
“The department officials have been asked to complete all official formalities and start work on the projects at the earliest,” state’s water resources minister Hemchand Yadav said. "The projects have been sanctioned to develop and expand the irrigation facilities in the state," he added.
The department would spend Rs 48 crore for the construction of 10 annicuts across various nullahs and rivers in the state. The annicuts will help in water conservation and irrigation at the local levels, the department officials said.
The three flood control projects to come up in Rajnandgaon and Bilaspur districts will cost Rs 6.94 crore, the officials added.
