Filling of vacancies in LIC demanded

Our Correspondent Chennai/ Trichy
The Centre should take immediate measures to fill the vacancies in the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), said K. Venugopal, general secretary of the All India Insurance Employee's Association.

He said more than 16,000 posts had been lying vacant in the insurance giant for the last 4 or 5 years.

"The number of insurance policies has increased to more than 19 crore and there has been a phenomenal increase in LIC's first premium income. But the acute shortage of staff, especially at the front office level, has affected the customer- care services," he contended.
