Overseas Indian Affairs and External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj to Chair Fourth Meeting of the Board of Trustees India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians
The Overseas Indian Affairs and External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj will chair the Fourth Meeting of the Board of Trustees India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians (IDF-OI) in Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan in New Delhi tomorrow. The Secretary, Overseas Indian Affairs, Shri Sunil Soni will also be present in the meeting. The India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians (IDF-OI) is a not for profit Trust established in 2008 by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs to serve as a credible institutional avenue to enable overseas Indians to engage in philanthropy to supplement India's social development efforts. The Trust has a two-tier structure comprising the Board of Trustees and the Executive Directorate. IDF-OI is chaired by the Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs.
The Board comprises of four eminent overseas Indians, four eminent resident Indians and senior officials from the Ministries of External Affairs, Home Affairs, Finance and NITI Aayog.
The 4th meeting of the Board of Trustees is being held in New Delhi on Saturday, the 23rd of May 2015 and will be chaired by the Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Smt. Sushma Swaraj. The participants include Shri Yusuff Ali M.A., Managing Director EMKE LuLu Group UAE; Shri Joginder Pal Sanger, Chairman, Mastcraft Limited UK; Shri Subhash Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director, Prateek General Trading UAE; Dr. B.K. Agnihotri, former Ambassador-at-Large, USA; Shri Ashok Chowgule, Chairman, Chowgule Industries Pvt. Ltd., Goa; Ms. Ritu Beri, Managing Director, Ritu Beri Designs; Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder, Sulabh Sanitation and Social Reform Movement India and Dr Varaprasad Reddy, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Shantha Biotechnics along with senior officials from the MHA, MEA, MoFinance and NITI Aayog.
Since 2011, IDF-OI has helped in channelizing contributions from overseas donors towards social development projects in Assam, Rajasthan and Gujarat in the areas of water conservation, rainwater harvesting, educating and mainstreaming differently abled children, women's education and sustainable livelihood.
The Board will review IDF-OI, approve action plans, approve outreach plans and give its suggestions and guidance to IDF-OI in enhancing IDF-OI.
