The university has already appointed a wholetime director Naresh Jotwani for the institute.
Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University has been promoted by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) to create a world class institute in energy education and research with special focus on the oil and gas sector.
"India's energy sector will have to focus more on developing unconventional energy resources to reduce its dependency on crude oil imports," said D. Choubey, chairman and managing director, Gas Authority of India Ltd, at a function held in Gandhinagar on Monday.
Countries across the globe are focusing on development of unconventional energies like solar, hydro, wind and nuclear. "In Spain about 40% of its total energy requirements are met by wind energy, whereas in France about 80% of total energy requirement is met by nuclear energy. Unconventional energy is the future of India's energy sector and solar energy needs to have much more emphasis," according to Choubey.
