Rolta India sets up academy

Rolta India, a Mumbai-based IT company, is setting up an academy to train people in engineering and geospatial information systems (GIS).

The company, providing IT-based GIS, engineering design automation (EDA) solutions and eSecurity services, will set up the academy with an initial cost of Rs 40-50 crore.

The academy will have four batches in a year comprising 250 executives each. The course will be for a duration of three months and also give job guarantee. Students will have to pay a sum of Rs 2.5 lakh for the course. To facilitate the funding, Rolta has already tied up with a few banks, which will give 100 per cent education loan.

XLRI's PG course in mgmt & insurance

The Xavier Labour Relations Institute in India (XLRI) at Jamshedpur has launched a post graduate programme in management and insurance in association with ICICI Prudential, in an attempt to train students to face challenges in the insurance sector.

The three trimester course would be followed by a two-month internship. After the internship, the students would be absorbed by ICICI Prudential as executive trainees.

According to Sanjay Radhakrishnan, associate vice-president, ICICI Prudential, the course would have two major focus areas "" general management and life insurance domain.

School to train helicopter pilots

Public sector defence equipment manufacturer and supplier Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is all set to sign an agreement with CAE, the Canadian flight simulator and pilot training solutions provider, for a helicopter pilot training school in Bangalore. To be called Project Hatsop, the training school will be an equal joint venture with an investment of $52 million.

The cost of training pilots will be in the range of $1,200-$1,400 per hour. This is less than the international standard cost which is around $2,200 per hour of training.

Animation colleges for Vizag, Mumbai

Delhi-based Picasso Digital Media Private Ltd plans to set up more animation colleges at Vizag and Mumbai in the next academic year. The company, at present, has animation colleges in Delhi and Hyderabad.

"We will open colleges in Vizag and Mumbai at an investment of over Rs 5 crore in the next academic year," ABRP Reddy, managing director, Picasso Digital Media, said. The two-year-old company is promoted by the Maharishi Group.

According to him, the country is losing contracts worth $1 billion a year in the international market due to shortage of animators.
