Asian markets rally; Hang Seng surges 14%

Asian markets posted smart gains in today's trading.

The Hang Seng zoomed 14.3% (1,580 points) to 12,596. The Nikkei ended with a gain of 6.4% (459 points) at 7,622.

The Taiwan Weighted index advanced 33 points to 4,400. The Straits Times index moved up 29 points to 1,630, and the Seoul Composite index added 53 points to 999.

The Shanghai Composite index was 48 points at 1,772.
