Farms May Be Allowed To Raise Vannamei Shrimps

The Indian aquaculture industry might follow the footsteps of the Chinese and start growing L Vannamei, a shrimp variety, for exports.
The species is undergoing technical tests with the exotic species committee (ESC) of the ministry of agriculture to assess its acceptability. The species was not native and would be imported.
Industry sources said, subject to ESC approval, L Vannamei could be released in Indian shrimp hatcheries in a year
