HDFC Bank on a global flight

The frontrunner in the intra-day banking rally, HDFC Bank gained nearly 11 per cent from its previous close of Rs 1578.50 to end at Rs 1749.10, while the BSE Bankex gained about 7 per cent.

A robust 1.7 lakh shares changed hands on the counter, as against a two-week average traded quantity of a mere 54,000 shares. There was a surge of 13.3 per cent in HDFC Bank's ADR to $124.66 on the New York Stock Exchange.
