No plan to withdraw levy on sugar

The government has no plans to withdraw the levy obligation in the sugar industry, said T Nanda Kumar, Union food secretary. This was in response to newspaper reports about government's plans to relieve the sugar industry from its levy obligation.
 
According to present government policy, sugar companies are obliged to sell 10 per cent of their produce to government at a concessional rate for the public distribution system.
