No plan to withdraw levy on sugar

| The government has no plans to withdraw the levy obligation in the sugar industry, said T Nanda Kumar, Union food secretary. This was in response to newspaper reports about government's plans to relieve the sugar industry from its levy obligation. |
| According to present government policy, sugar companies are obliged to sell 10 per cent of their produce to government at a concessional rate for the public distribution system. |
