Potato down over 2% on fresh arrivals

Subdued demand influences prices

Press Trust of India New Delhi

Potato prices fell by Rs 31.60 to Rs 1,090 per quintal today as speculators offloaded their positions due to less offtake in the spot market.

Adequate stocks position, following increased arrivals from the producing regions weighed on the prices.

At the Multi Commodity exchange, potato prices for October delivery fell by Rs 31.60, or 2.82%, to Rs 1,090 per quintal, with a trade volume of 26 lots.

March potato declined by Rs 16.60, or 2.23%, to Rs 727.10 per quintal, with a business turnover of 32 lots.

Continued fall in potato prices is due to offloading of positions by speculators on subdued demand in spot markets, traders said.
