Reliance pack drives Sensex to a new high of 7,190

| The market sentiment changed significantly after a lacklustre opening, aided by steep rally in Reliance group stocks which propelled the gains of the index to a new intra-day high of 7,190. Though the mood remains upbeat, weakness in select banking, tech and other old economy counters have minimised the gains of the Sensex in current trades to 7,179 - up 30 pts. The Nifty has inched past the 2,200-mark to 2,202 - up eight points. Reliance Industries has rebounded into the green after a weak opening, and has soared 2.41% (Rs 15) to Rs 670. ITC has advanced 1.88% (Rs 30) to Rs 1,634. While ONGC has moved up 1.47% (Rs 14) to Rs 982, Reliance Energy has surged 2.67% (Rs 17) to Rs 661. HDFC Bank is up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 584. ITC (down Rs 2 to Rs 416) and SBI (down a rupee to Rs 678) are subdued. Infosys is up half a per cent (Rs 11) at Rs 2,323. Wipro and Satyam are up with steady gains at Rs 753 and Rs 499, respectively. TCS, however, is down Rs 3 at Rs 1,324. Bajaj has gained a per cent (Rs 10) to Rs 1,327, after opening weak. Hero Honda is trading lower by a per cent (Rs 6) at Rs 597. Tata Power has gained 1.62% (Rs 6) to Rs 382. |
