A 1960 Commer TS3 three-car transporter for the Ecurie Ecosse race team has been reportedly auctioned for an eye popping amount of 3.58 million NZ dollars.

The bidding for the two-stroke truck lasted almost 20 minutes before the final price and the US motor racing enthusiast also bought two Jaguars for 5.16million NZ dollars and 5.75million NZ dollars.

Acccording to stuff.co.nz, Ecosse was a private Scottish team that achieved success in the 1950s and '60s, the highlight being wins in '56 and '57 in the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The auction sold all eight cars remaining in the Ecurie Ecosse collection, all painted in the team's famous blue and white colours, including a very rare Jaguar D-Type and C-Type.

The report said that, in contrast Michael Schumacher's 1994 Benetton-Ford, which helped him to the first of seven F1 world championships, fetched relatively modest 1.1million dollars amount.
