Afghan Army confirms capture of Taliban leader

The Special Operation Force of the Afghan army on Monday confirmed the capture of a Taliban leader identified as Mullah Khalifa in the country's southern Kandahar province.

A statement issued by the Afghan Defence Ministry said Monday that Khalifa was captured during a night raid on a Taliban hideout in Khakrez district.

Kandahar, which is located some 450 kilometers south of Kabul, is a well known Taliban stronghold.
