C. Vidyasagar Rao appointed new Maharashtra Governor

President Pranab Mukherjee has announced the appointment of BJP leader Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao as the Governor of Maharashtra, replacing former Governor K Sankaranarayanan, who quit on Sunday upon being transferred to Mizoram.

President Mukherjee also announced the appointment of the Governors of three other states - Rajasthan, Karnataka and Goa.
The appointees are former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh as the Governor of Rajasthan; former Speaker of the Gujarat Vidhan Sabha Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala as the Governor of Karnataka; and former Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha president Mridula Sinha as the Governor of Goa.
A release by the President stated that the appointments will take effect from the dates the incumbents assume charge of their respective offices.
