In a landmark decision, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has decided to allot its EWS houses, which are ready at Dwarka and were initially meant to be included into regular housing scheme, to JJ Dwellers.

Since the EWS flats, which are ready and are located at Dwarka, slum clusters in close proximity to the area will be rehabilitated in these flats.

For the purpose of allotment six clusters wherein 2382 slum dwellers reside-at Indira Camp 2, 4 5, 3 and 6, Vikaspuri and Shanker Garden-have been identified.

It has been confirmed that the beneficiary's identification survey has almost been completed and assistance from other socio-economic surveys carried out by Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) will assist to complete the identification process.

To recover cost, DDA has worked out a formula so that the flats are affordable for the slum dwellers. As per this method, part of the cost will be subsidized while part of it will be recovered from the beneficiary by way of equated monthly installments. Additionally, once the beneficiaries have been provided flats the jhuggies occupied by them will be got vacated and simultaneously demolished for land reclamation.

The vacated land afterward will be used as per the land use.

DDA has also proposed that sufficient protection will be given for ensuring that the beneficiaries do not part with the flats.

The flats will only be given on a licence-basis, until the beneficiary pays the entire outstanding amount.

Officials have said that the scheme will be a onetime package and all such rehabilitations will be examined on a case-to-case basis.
