Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani has agreed to consider Pakistan's proposal for resuming peace talks with the Taliban.

According to the Dawn, a senior Pakistani official said that Ghani would discuss the proposal with his allies.

The official's statement came following discussions between Ghani and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Adviser on Foreign Affairs and National Security, Sartaj Aziz.

The messages conveyed by Aziz to Afghanistan in the meeting focused primarily on resuming the reconciliation process and bringing an end to the Afghan Government's rhetoric against Pakistan.

The reconciliation talks between the Afghan Government and the Taliban were suspended after the disclosure of the militant group's chief Mullah Omar's death on July 31.

The first meeting between Afghan Government and the Taliban was held in Murree on July 7.
