Australian swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has credited a 'bit of luck' for his runs haul in the World Cup so far, as he is eyeing a possible call-up to the nation's Test side ahead of the Ashes series in England.

However, Maxwell, who is Australia's top run-scorer for the tournament, is well aware that the good times could dry up at short notice. He said that it wasn't that long ago that his batting form all changed, so he added that it's nice that he can ride the wave at the moment, but insisted that he knows how quickly it can turn around to wondering where his next runs are going to be.

So, the right-hander claimed that it's about trying to keep that going as much as he can, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Maxwell wasn't a certainty to be included in Australia's World Cup squad but has certainly proven his value, and on Sunday he belted 102 from 51 during Australia's 64-run win over Sri Lanka.

And he's now surely put himself in contention for a place in Australia's Test side, including a mid-year tour to the West Indies and the Ashes in England.

The all-rounder said that he would love to be touring the West Indies and he would love to be touring England for the Ashes but added that it just comes down to how well he is performing and hopefully making runs for the rest of the World Cup.

He added that he still believes that he has got a fair bit of work to do to prove that he is ready to have another crack at Test cricket again.

Arriving in Hobart ahead of Saturday's last pool match against Scotland at Bellerive Oval, Maxwell said that he couldn't point to anything specific that's spurred his improved form. He said that a lot of it comes down to a little bit of luck, adding that one gets a little bit of luck and then one gets a bit of a run on and it all seems to steamroll for the player.

Maxwell insisted that it's nothing major, and it's not like he changed anything technically.
