Former England captain Geoff Boycott has said that helmets give a false sense of security to batsmen who no longer know how to cope with fast bowling.
According to News24, the death of Philip Hughes after being hit on the head by a short pitched delivery has fuelled a lot of debate about safety in cricket.
Boycott said that he batted on uncovered pitches without a helmet for most of his career.
It taught him how important it was to learn the technique against fast bowling and know when to duck, what to leave and when to play the ball.
Boycott thinks that batsmen now feel impregnable at the crease, rather than playing with a genuine fear factor as used to be the case.
