ANI Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh

Commenting on the report of the burning of a journalist's mother in Barabanki by two policemen , NCP leader Majeed Memon said the media should stand together and fight injustice.

Speaking to the media, here today, he said: "During the past few months particularly after the Modi sarkar came into power, media has made tremendous impact by exposing various scams. It seems that people in the corridors of power, particularly BJP and RSS people, are not happy with the media, and they probably want to teach the media a lesson by resorting to all kinds of attacks. It could be political, physical, moral and, it could be legal,"

He said: "In the Barabanki case, we find that the mother of a journalist has been burnt. In fact, it is a case no less than murder, I am afraid that the media will have to stand up, irrespective of their differences, as a force in Indian democracy"

He added: " They should stand against the intimidatory tactics of people in power, both at the state and at the centre All right thinking people will stand by the media in case the political bosses are exploiting their positions and undesirably attacking people," he added.

According to reports, the woman had gone to the police station to free her husband, who had been picked up for questioning. When she refused to bribe the policemen in order to secure the release of her husband, she was set ablaze.
