Muslims in Kashmir's Poonch district came together for a two-day convention to raise awareness about the importance of the ancient traditions and beliefs of Islam which are slowly being eroded away by western culture.
Muslims religious heads, Maulanas, from Kashmir and other states spoke at the event and educated participants on the gradually fading values and traditions of Islam.
The clerics unanimously agreed that India's culture is being forgotten because the western media is influencing youngsters. This is not just affecting Islam, but all other religions in India as well.
Head cleric Moulana Farooq Ahmed said western culture is having an adverse affect on people.
"These days, our culture, our traditions and our mandates are slowly being diluted by the western culture. In all honesty, some Muslims are no longer Muslims, some Sikhs are no longer Sikhs, and some Hindus are no longer Hindus," he said.
The Maulanas preached the message of love and harmony between religions as members of different religious communities were also invited to attend the convention.
The convention stressed on the importance of purdah and how discarding it has become a major factor in womens exploitation.
