New Australian-born workout regime Zuu is set to help us rediscover the basic principles of movement, by combining high- interval training with exercises based on seven primal movements of pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, squatting, lunging and on our gait (walking, jogging, sprinting).

The concept dates to 1998 and US rehabilitation and exercise coach Paul Chek, Metro.co.uk reported.

An expert in corrective and high-performance exercise kinesiology (the study of the mechanics of body movements), Chek published his findings in his book, Movement That Matters, in 2000. Now, 16 years on, primal style workouts have become one of the hottest fitness trends.

Zuu uses 30 animal movements such as the bear crawl (walking on all fours), frog squat (a dynamic squat position) and gorilla walks (jumping like an ape) and mixes them with bodyweight exercises for muscle, aerobic and anaerobic work.

Zuu is designed to develop mobility, agility, flexibility and cardio endurance, while strengthening muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and fascia - the tissue that surrounds muscles.
