NHRC notices to Union Health Secretary and Director AIIMS, New Delhi on report of poor quality life saving drugs

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that the Head, Anaesthesiology Department, AIIMS had written a letter to the Medical Superintendent of AIIMS alleging that due to poor quality of life saving drugs her husband suffered reaction from the two drugs provided by the Institute.

She had requested the Medical Superintendent to withdraw and stop purchase of such spurious life saving drugs for AIIMS in the interest of patients' safety.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the patients in general and AIIMS in particular. It has issued notices to the Director, AIIMS, Secretary, Union Ministry of Health and Family Planning, New Delhi calling for reports within four weeks.
