Paes-Hingis duo lifts US Open Mixed Doubles trophy

Indian tennis star Leander Paes and his Swiss partner Martina Hingis have won the U.S. Open mixed doubles title for 2015.

The fourth seeded Indo-Swiss pair defeated Americans Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 to lift their third title of this season.

Paes and Hingis had earlier won the Australian Open and Wimbledon Championship.

Meanwhile, in a major shock, unseeded Italian Roberta Vinci stunned defending champion Serena Williams of the United States to reach the women's singles final, ending the latter's dream run of achieving a calendar-year Grand Slam.

In the semi final, 43rd ranked Vinci dethroned World Number One Serena 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In the other semi final, another Italian, the 26th seed Flavia Pennetta pipped out second seed Simona Halep of Romania 6-1, 6-3 to make it an all Italian Final.

Top seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated defending champion Marin Cilic of Croatia 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, while second seed Roger Federer beat Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 to enter the men's final of the tournament.
