Pakistan's border troops have reportedly violated the ceasefire in the Akhnoor Sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a television channel report, the Indian troops in the sector retaliated against the ceasefire violation. Further details on the incident are awaited.

Ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LOC) and the International Border (IB) have taken place in an unabated manner despite a strong message by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Parliament to say that the Government is committed to give a befitting reply to those who try to undermine India's security.

Two days after the terror attack at Dinanagar in the Gurdaspur District of Punjab, the LOC continues to remain heated up with ceasefire violations reported in North Kashmir's Gurez and Machil sectors earlier this week.

The exchange of gunfire, including small arms and mortars, between the Pakistan Rangers and the Indian army troops continued till late Thursday afternoon. The situation continues to be tense.

Ceasefire violations were also reported in the area South of the Pir Panjal at Krishna Ghati and Shahpur Indian army retaliated leading to heavy exchange of fire.

The Indian defence spokesperson in Udhampur has said that the firing was completely unprovoked.

It is notable that an Army soldier, Rachpal Singh, died due to Pakistani sniper fire at Krishna Ghati in Poonch District.
