Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh on Thursday rejected the resolution to create an independent committee to monitor Sikh temples.
The Haryana Government on July 11 passed a bill in the state assembly to create an independent committee to monitor Gurdwaras, in the state.
Singh said the provincial government has no right to pass any such proposals.
"We reject the resolution passed by the Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in Haryana which has passed proposal to create an independent committee to monitor Sikh temples. We have passed a resolution against it. Whatever this government is doing, is unconstitutional and is using extra constitutional rights and doing things which do not come into its purview," said Singh.

The decision came despite opposition from the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who had earlier appealed the central government to intervene in the matter.
Singh added that under the passed proposals, the temple will become a government entity.
"If the act is passed under money and financial bill which has actually been done, the government will get all the donations that come to Sikh temples. All the employees, head clerk or people who work in the gurudwara will become government employees," said Avtar Singh.
Reportedly, Badal has threatened to quit if the central government does not intervene in the controversial issue.
The bill, introduced on the first day of monsoon session of Haryana legislature, was opposed by Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and BJP.
The Amritsar-based SGPC is a mini-parliament of Sikh religious affairs which controls gurdwaras across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
The SGPC came into existence following the 1925 Gurdwara Act after years of struggle and sacrifice by thousands of people against the British ploy to divide the community.
