Six people died and few others suffered injuries when a car skid off a road and fell into Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir.

The incident took place around 5:00 am on Saturday when the car was heading to Srinagar from Jammu.

Four bodies have been recovered, while two others still remain missing.

A passenger who survived the accident claimed that the driver lost control of the car while smoking his cigarette.

"He must have been lighting a cigarette when he left the steering. Initially also when he lit the cigarette, he left the steering," said Mohammad Rabban.

"Many times while driving we asked him to drive carefully but the driver said he knows the tactics of driving," he added.
