Performing arts form an integral part of the culture of the northeast. Recently, Manipur hosted the 3rd Khundongbam Brojendro Theatre Festival with an aim to showcase the rich talent of the region.
The festival was organised jointly by the Khundongbam Brojendro Cultural Trust and Department of Art and Culture, Govt. of Manipur with the theme of Theatre for Peace and Friendship.
The inaugural ceremony was marked by a performance by Manipuri folk artists.
"I think it is the only chance to get together here with theatre artists from other countries, and also from Bangalore. All together here arranging of this festival will promote integrity in the minds of people. Also people get to see their own culture," said Kholchnadra Athokpam, a visitor.
Besides a number of local theatre groups, artists from Bangalore and neighbouring Myanmar also performed at the event.

Several plays written by Brojendro, a renowned playwright of the state, were staged during the festival.
The audience had a gala time as they got a chance to watch plays by famous writers, from and outside the state.
" The main reason we are organizing this theatre festival is that we want to show our beloved brother Brojendro's works and the story he has written through playing so that people will get to know much better about him and his talents in the field of theatre. We also want all the theatre groups to know him better," said Lamabam Gojendro Singh, a theatre personality.
Cultural events like this are a good means to bring people together on one platform, and to promote and preserve various art forms of the region.
