Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic has lost the shortest match in ATP history after crashing to a 6-0, 6-1 defeat at the hands of Finnish Jarkko Nieminen at the Sony Open within just 28 minutes and 20 seconds.
Tomic, who has not played since retiring against Rafael Nadal in the first round of the Australian Open in January, won just one point in the first five games of the match and 13 in total.
According to News.com.au, the match surpassed the previous record set by Greg Rusedski and Carsten Arriens at the Sydney International in 1996 when the Briton beat his German opponent 6-0, 6-0 in 29 minutes.
Meanwhile, Tomic's compatriot Sam Stosur eased into the third round of the tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands within one hour and 12 minutes, setting up a meeting with either Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova or American Coco Vandeweghe, the report added.
