Achuthanandan returns to his official residence

Former Kerala chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan Sunday returned to his official residence in Thiruvananthapuram from Alappuzha.

The 21st Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) conference plunged into a crisis when 91-year-old party veteran Achuthanandan walked out of the meeting Saturday in Alappuzha.

The conference began Friday to elect a new state secretary in place of Pinarayi Vijayan, who has completed his tenure.

Achuthanandan was pulled up at the state CPI-M conference for breaching party discipline, following which he walked out of the meet and revealed his intention to step down as the leader of opposition in the state assembly.

The party began a desperate attempt to mollify him and denied he walked out.
