A woman was rescued from a burning flat in Manicktala area of north Kolkata on Saturday, while her husband was charred to death, police said.
The police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the fire at Manicktala Housing Estate, and noticed flames coming out of a flat.
The police and fire brigade personnel broke open the flat locked from inside, and rescued a woman from one of the rooms while the burnt body of her husband was recovered from another.
The man was declared dead when brought to the hospital.
