Four men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a female member of a dance troupe at a wedding function in this district, Punjab Police said here on Tuesday.

Main accused Lucky Goyal alias Billa, weapon owner Sanju Goyal, marriage palace owner Jagsir Singh and the groom's father Narinder Kumar were booked for the murder of 24-year-old dancer Kulwinder Kaur late on Saturday evening.

Lucky had allegedly fired at Kaur from a .12 bore gun from close range when she was performing on stage at a marriage palace in Maur Mandi town of Bathinda district, 200 km from Chandigarh.

Kaur, who was said to be three-months pregnant, collapsed on the stage after she was shot by a drunk Goyal.

The accused, reported absconding after the incident, were said to be linked to Punjab's ruling Shiromani Akali Dal.

Carrying weapons during wedding functions and at marriage palaces is banned by law.

Last month, a self-styled godwoman Sadhvi Deva Thakur and her accomplices had gone on a firing spree during a wedding function near Karnal town in neighbouring Haryana, leaving a woman guest dead and two others injured.
