The efforts to rescue a one-year-old boy who fell into a 70-foot narrow borewell in the Balsamand village, Haryana, on Wednesday continued on Thursday, said officials.

The child is safe, an official supervising the rescue operation told IANS.

The official said steps have been taken to supply oxygen inside the well. Also, a night-vision camera has been planted to keep a watch on the child, who took a sleep last night.

The rescue team is digging a parallel well to create a passage to reach the child, officials said.

The rescue team, comprising the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indian Army and the district administration personnel, is at work at the village in Hisar district.

Nadeem Khan, son of a road construction worker, fell into the borewell on Wednesday. He is the youngest of five siblings.

Earlier, an attempt was made to pull the child out with the help of a net.

A villager had dug the borehole to install a tubewell.
