Mayer-Souza play longest match in Argentina-Brazil series

Argentine tennis player Leonardo Mayer and Brazil's Joao Souza on Sunday played the longest match in Davis Cup singles category, which lasted for six hours and 42 minutes.

Mayer defeated Souza 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5), 5-7, 5-7 and 15-13, in the match played at Tecnopolis clay court in Villa Martinelli in Greater Buenos Aires, Xinhua reported.

The Mayer-Souza match broke the record set by U.S. John McEnroe and Swedish Mats Wilander in 1982 in a five-set game that lasted six hours and 22 minutes.

So far the longest match in Davis Cup doubles was the 2013 game between Czech players Tomas Berdych/Lukas Rosol and Swiss players Marco Chiudinelli/Stanislas Wawrinka.
