Myanmar drafts five-year dairy development plan

Myanmar is drafting a five-year sustainable plan to develop the country's dairy cattle breeding sector to which New Zealand government offered to render assistance, official media reported Friday.
The five-year draft concept plan (2013-18) were discussed recently at a stakeholder consultation workshop with Myanmar dairy sector representatives, reported Xinhua.
The report quoted Minister of Livestock and Fisheries U Ohn Myint as saying that regional dairy development boards have been formed across the country, stressing the need for more efforts to establish dairy cattle breeding farms and value-added dairy product factories.
New Zealand ended decades of limited contact last year when Prime Minister John Key visited Myanmar and pledged 7 million NZ dollars ($5.7 million) toward humanitarian aid and the construction of dairy farm capabilities.
