Sisodia checks polluting trucks entering Delhi

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia paid a surprise visit to the border in northwest Delhi close to midnight on Sunday to crack down on polluting trucks entering the capital.

Sisodia reached the border at around 11 p.m. and stayed there till midnight, personally overseeing action being taken against polluting vehicles entering Delhi, an official told IANS on Monday.

A total of five trucks were challaned in his presence, the official said.

The crackdown was on overloaded and visibly polluting vehicles apart from those without pollution certificates. The Delhi government on Sunday ordered action against such vehicles.

The government also ordered a strict enforcement of a Supreme Court order banning the entry of trucks not destined for Delhi.
